GMOA presents eight-step proposal to President Wickremesinghe on healthcare challenges

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) engaged in a constructive dialogue with President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday, addressing critical issues surrounding brain drain, healthcare crises, and concerns affecting the medical community.

During the meeting, the GMOA presented an extensive eight-step proposal outlining strategies to combat the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and the healthcare system at large.

President Wickremesinghe expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful proposal and affirmed his commitment to giving it due consideration. The President assured the GMOA delegation that he will delve into the intricacies of the proposal and pledged to reconvene with the association upon his return from an official trip to China.

The meeting saw the presence of MP Wajira Abeywardena, President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, and President’s Senior Adviser on Economic Affairs Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, underlining the significance attached to the discussions.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Vice President Dr. Chandika Epikatuwa, and a group of assistant secretaries and committee members of the association played a crucial role in articulating the concerns and suggestions.

Following the meeting, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge speaking to media expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the discussion.

Senior officials such as Senior Assistant Presidential Secretary Madushanka Dissanayake and Assistant Presidential Secretary Mimi Tennakoon, along with former Minister Ravi Karunanayake, were also in attendance.
