Over 10,000 police and security forces personnel had been deployed to provide security to 2,253 churches across the country yesterday for Good Friday, police spokesman, DIG Nihal Thalduwa said.

Security will be provided until Easter Sunday.

DIG Thalduwa said special security measures had been adopted because several churches were attacked by terrorists in 2019.

Altogether 6,837 policemen, 470 members of the Special Task Force (STF), and about 2,900 security forces personnel have been deployed to provide security.

DIG Thalduwa said the public could call the police on 119, 118 and 1927 to provide information about suspicious individuals.
